Goodbye Alexandra Lee

Hello Alex Ferreri!

With a new chapter in my life, begins a new chapter in my business.

Let’s start from the beginning…

I’ve always been a self-proclaimed photo hoarder, and taking pictures of people and their moments and of them with their people fuels and excites me!

In the summer of 2013, I decided I to turn this passion into a business. As one did in the early 2010s, I created my business Facebook page to start preserving and documenting through photography.

But choosing a name wasn’t easy…

I went by Alex Marquardt socially but wanted something more “professional.” I tried A. Marquardt Photography, but my last name (mar-kwert) is hard to pronounce and spell. Alex Lee? Eh, not the vibe.

Alexandra Lee was formal, elegant, professional, and easy to read and spell. I love my name, and my parents did well when they named me, IMO. And Alexandra Lee was what was decided.

However, as time went on, I grew as a person. Alexandra Lee no longer felt authentic. It’s natural to evolve in your late teens and 20s, right? And as a small business owner, my business is a reflection of who I am as a person as well.

Alexandra Lee felt like a mask, preventing me from fully expressing myself. There was always a disconnect between Alex Marquardt and Alexandra Lee in networking and branding. And although I value professionalism, Alexandra felt a bit too formal.

While it was my legal name and just a business name, it no longer resonated with my personality and the brand I wanted to build.

I’ve always been an Alex! (except for those four years at a private elementary school when there was another Alex M… *sigh*)

As of May 20th, 2023, I am now married to a wonderful person. And he just so happens to have an AMAZING last name. It’s easier to spell and pronounce and sounds pretty cool with Alex in front of it!

It felt like the perfect opportunity to lean into this pull for a change and go for it! It feels right.

Alexandra Lee will always hold a special place in my heart. It is what I built the starting foundation of my business on. It does feel emotional to leave it behind – especially when I look back on all of the hard work the last ten years that has gone into building this dream photography business.

BUT! I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next. And equally, I look forward to working with all of you and continuing to build and make Alex Ferreri better and better each year.

Thanks for being along for this ride! It’s been such a joy to photograph you all. I hope to continue documenting your beautiful growing families and life’s moments now as Alex Ferreri. I’m SUPER excited about this change!

To new things and growth! Cheers!
